Suffolk plays host to many tech and digital events that provide an opportunity to hear from some of the most knowledgeable tech leaders in our region. The Tech Nation Report 2020 continues to show how well Suffolk is performing within the Eastern region, and the tech and digital community offers a diverse mix of events and meetups for everyone. Here is your updated guide to the key events in Suffolk and why you need to be there.

Something for business owners, tech startups and pizza lovers

One of the longest-running meetup events is SYNCIPSWICH, which showcases the tech startup community and provides attendees with a chance to share skills and knowledge. It is a supportive environment that allows new businesses and people within the tech community to share success stories and learn from each other while enjoying drinks and pizza. SyncIpswich has continued to hold monthly meetups virtually, with a different keynote speaker each month. Easy to sign up, free to attend and well worth an evening online.

Fancy a breakfast catch up? Tech East continue to hold regular Tech and Toast events across the county with a range of businesses and speakers from every aspect of the industry. These free and quick hour-long, now virtual, events are perfect to give you a boost of motivation in the morning and not be too disruptive to your working day.

Something for New starters

If you’re just starting out in the industry, there is so much opportunity out there for you. Especially with the circumstances, we know there will be many people looking to either change their career path or start out learning something new. So what about this four-day DevOps course? This is great for IT professionals looking to grow their careers within the industry.

Something for developers

Technical meetup SUFFOLK DEVELOPERS is the ideal event for developers. Based primarily at the University of Suffolk in Ipswich, the events are regularly attended by local experts who cover a range of topics including the internet of things (IoT), home automation, serverless development and more. Sharing knowledge and solving problems is second nature for many developers, and these events are a perfect opportunity to do this with other technically-minded people. Did we also mention this is free to attend too?

Looking for something more wide-reaching? Smashing Magazine has a whole host of webinars and courses that are available for developers. Not only this but they have a fantastic podcast on-going which we would recommend for any developer, junior or senior.

Something for gamers

The jewel in Suffolk’s tech crown is its award-winning computing school, the Creative Computing Club, which runs the Ipswich Game Developers Meetup. This regular event helps developers build the skills and experience needed to take their games to market. The Creative Computing Club also works hard to offer education and support to anyone looking for a career in technology and IT.

Something for those looking to learn and network

Innovation Martlesham is home to over 100 innovative businesses, and it continues to grow year on year. The tech cluster will soon be home to a specialist University of Innovation Hub, making it one to watch for anyone looking into apprenticeships for either themselves or their business. They are currently holding a host of virtual events and webinars through Tech East that are not ones to miss!

Two other organisations that are right on our doorstep are the East of England Agile User Group and WordPress Suffolk, both of which offer support, collaboration and opportunities for the local tech community. The Agile User Group offers Agile users and Scrum practitioners a forum to exchange ideas and network, while WordPress Suffolk is the perfect place to share knowledge with fellow WordPress users.
